About Brendan Carr

Thank you for your time reading this. My name is Brendan and I’m a career technologist – that is, I’m immersed on a daily basis in all areas of computer technology, from web design, to computer repair, to server management. I have an extensive background in IT, starting back in 2001 when I entered BCIT at the age of 16. My first real job was in a computer company based in Maple Ridge, dealing with an Apple service contract for the School District of Port Moody – from there I was hooked. Below is a brief snapshot of what I’ve been doing for the past decade or so, please feel free to contact me for further details in any area. I do have references available upon request, but your confidentiality is appreciated.

I have a background in web development and experience designing and developing hundreds of websites. Over the last few years, I’ve had the opportunity to branch out and work on extensive MySQL database and XML Soap projects as well, not inside the umbrella of WordPress development.  My work on remediation, creating plugins and editing existing plugins that may have been abandoned, as well as specific needs in the various industries I work with has given me an incredible understanding of the underlying framework of WordPress.

Dealing with so many industries has also grown my knowledge of online marketing, keywords, SEO, and generating unique content for clients that are otherwise unable to or don’t have the time to create their own. I put it to good use as a consultant and in an advisory capacity for many small to medium sized businesses.

I am well versed in all areas of web programming and design, including but not limited to HTML5, PHP, CSS, MySQL, JavaScript, Ajax, jQuery, XML, Cross-Browser Compliance and Compatibility (sometimes a challenge), and of course working within Photoshop to create and modify templates and designs. I am also well versed in managing cPanel/WHM servers – from both a hardware and software perspective.

I am a network administrator, code monkey, trainer, educator, and general fixer-of-things technology based. I do all of my coding on a Lenovo Legion laptop using VSCode in a Windows environment, and on an iMac using Coda. Our company has a half dozen VPS and dedicated servers for clients that we also use for development, and host several hundred sites exclusively.
